“Only Time Will Tell,” from the series “The Longest Nights.” Speaking of time, it truly flies. It's been over a year since I started this painting. I left it halfway done, waiting for the right moment to return to it. I glanced at it several times, but it never felt like the right time to resume. A few nights ago, something changed. I looked at it and suddenly felt the urgency to complete it. Without a second thought, I jumped into it and was glued to the screen for the next three hours… or so I estimate – time tends to slip away from me when creating. Time, the star of this show, revealed more than just how the portrait was meant to look upon completion. As I reflected on the journey, a line from The Rolling Stones echoed in my mind: “You can't always get what you want / But if you try sometimes, you'll find / You get what you need.” Finishing this painting, I realized, gave me a piece of that.
