Buffalo Drawing

To the Native American people buffalo hold a profound symbolism representing more than just a physical animal. It embodies a spiritual essence and a deep connection to nature and community. The buffalo’s generosity in providing food and shelter to indigenous peoples has been fundamental to their survival and cultural identity. They are also known for their historical significance, being nearly driven to extinction due to mass destruction by humans in the 19th century. It is believed there were over 60 million buffalo in the United States in the early 1800’s. My drawing is an attempt to capture the essence of the buffalo, its beauty and incredible strength, while also conveying the importance this animal provides to the natural world.
