The art series "CAVAE SCUTUM" , Hollow Shields from Latin, explores the hollow emotional and psychological defenses that modern society has created seeking isolation. . CAVAE SCUTUM XIII: The focal point of the painting presents a crucified, overweight man being carried by emaciated beings. However, upon closer inspection, we realize that all the overweight characters in the background are not just ordinary individuals, but rather members of the clergy. This poignant revelation adds a deeper layer of meaning to the artwork. It suggests that the very institutions entrusted with guiding and nurturing spiritual growth have become bloated with power and corruption. The crucified figure, representing the embodiment of authority within these churches, highlights the ironic nature of their excesses. The emaciated beings are the marginalized and oppressed who bear the burden of the clergy's influence. It is a stark portrayal of the exploitation and manipulation conducted by these religious institutions, as they use their power to control and subjugate the masses. The umbrellas on the heads of the overweight characters take on a new significance in this context. They symbolize the clergy's attempt to shield themselves from scrutiny and maintain their dominance. By wearing these umbrellas, they seek to deflect critical thinking and discourage independent thought among their followers, effectively trapping them in a cycle of blind obedience. In a world where the manipulation of the masses by religious establishments is all too common, this thought-provoking painting serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of unchecked authority and the need to reclaim our individual agency. It prompts us to seek spirituality that is rooted in compassion, empathy, and genuine personal growth, rather than blind adherence to dogma.

Brazil
René was born in the 60's, in São Paulo, Brazil, during the Military Dictatorship. Art bloomed in his childhood, in the 70's and his formal artistic preparation and training took place during the adolescence, between 13 and 17 years of age, when he studied art history, artistic movements and various painting techniques. For years, René developed his singular style, an amalgamation of different influences passing through enshrined names from comic books, pop art, the great classics and modern masters, contemporary art, and everything else his unquiet mind can absorb. Each artwork has a dense narrative full of details. It is like little stories that are relevant for the big picture. Sometimes, the protagonist is just a spectator, who placidly observes the scene depicted or protagonist is the viewer himself, establishing a dialogue between the collective and the individual simultaneously. Aside his career as an artist, René was an executive in the Brazilian publishing market, being a publisher and editor of magazines and books Rene's art is innovative and shares his feelings about human existence, using allegories to represent people's daily lives. His vision as an artist is to suppress his own ego from his artwork in order to create a mirror where the viewer can see himself.
