In psychoanalysis, Ego is the division of the psyche that is conscious, most immediately controls thought and behavior, and is most in touch with external reality. Ego is also an identification of the self, especially as distinct from the world and other selves. Ego can also be an appropriate pride in oneself; self-esteem. But, when this understanding of the self or the pride goes out of realistic bounds of human nature and becomes an exaggerated sense of self-importance it turns to conceit. The question is ‘How much is that much?’ When can we judge that the boundaries have been breached between self-esteem and conceit? In spirituality, the ego has been always the villain. Ego stands in the way of love, friendship, kindness and compassion; things that the soul craves. It is like a wasp buzzing in our head, ready to sting. It keeps the hurt and pain alive and never lets it heal completely. Watercolor wash and pen drawing with waterproof ink on handmade paper

After graduating as a Bachelor in Fine Arts, I have worked as a graphic designer for 6 years in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi. I resumed creating independent artworks in the varied mediums of painting, digital graphics and art installations after moving back to Kolkata in the year 2008. My chosen medium is watercolor and pen drawing on paper. My art works are an exercise in exploration of the self, as a creature of nature; an evolution through understanding of my physical, sensual and spiritual needs. They are expressions of personal confusions, visions, emotions and realizations. On one hand they are projections of my thoughts on worldly matters, which often baffle and trouble me, on the other they are personifications of my lunacies, fantasies, magical dreams, wicked thoughts and mischievous self expressions. Through their untamed and fantastic imagery, they are intimately mine and ultimately me.
