This particular artwork is inspired by the 1972 movie "Un flic" by Jean-Pierre Melville. It depicts a robbery scene involving three gangsters who are robbing a small bank in the coastal area of Saint-Jean-de-Monts during winter. The artwork resembles a theater scene or a ballet performance, characterized by precision, style, and elegance. In contrast, we have Inspector Alain Delon of the Parisian Police, who appears sharp and focused as he confronts an informant in his car. I watched the movie while traveling back to Berlin on July 23rd and felt that its darkness and mood resonated with the present. The movie has a blue shimmer, which enhances its cold yet elegant atmosphere. "Benedikt_1983 is my alias that I use for illustrations. For my canvases, I use my full name, Benedikt von Harder. I am an illustrator, painter, and visualist from Berlin and Düsseldorf. I create portraits and impressions that influence me in my daily routine, from scenes on the streets during daytime and nighttime, on my trips, and from digital content that inspires me. I love rock n roll vibes in the ordinary. I love culture, as well as power and the question of translating it into physical form. I mostly draw with Faber Castell Polychromos on DIN-A5 format, as I like its paper size, which also symbolizes harmlessness and greenness. Additionally, I use very basic paper normally used for notes to challenge the medium. I enjoy the idea of working on this paper for hours and mastering it so that it doesn't rip. I have been doing this since 2020 and understand the material now. I like to infuse this medium with power and perfection. With my works, I aim to transform ordinary subjects into complex drawings and translate them into cultural memories. That's why many of my works are named in their headline "Ordinary Portraits.
