Spring Backyard Drawing

This sketch pictures a typical backyard of a Ukrainian farm; this one belongs to my grandmother. Since childhood I have enjoyed countryside atmosphere: rooster songs in the mornings, the smell of moist soil after heavy rain, the thin fragrance of buds on the trees. All these sensations I attempted to convey in this quick drawing. Japanese haiku are written instantaneously in order to capture a moment. Pretty much alike, I made the sketch spontaneously, within only 10 minutes, hoping that I could catch the impression of that moment. Just like a short poem, this sketch is a brief fleeting reflection of complicated feelings, captured in expressly simple materials: pastel and paper.
