About The Artwork

This work was created as a sequel to the 2020 canvas work "The World." "The World" was inspired by the work "Hell Tayu and Ikkyu" by 19th century ukiyo-e artist Kawanabe Kyosai. According to Kyosai, this work was born from an episode in which a group of geisha playing the shamisen at a banquet suddenly appeared as skeletons. The Zen master Ikkyu, who appears in the painting, is a real and famous monk who travels between the sacred and the secular, and the hell tayu is a legendary courtesan. It is a fascinating work that depicts the secular and the sacred, in one painting. I perceived this as "fusion," which is also my own concept, and tried to express it in my own way. For a while since 2020, I have been searching for a way to solidify the image of this series. Around last fall, concrete characters were born and the direction was decided. After much deliberation, this series has finally started. This work is one of those drawings. Other canvas works are also in the works. Just look forward to them.

I'm not thinking about becoming a minimalist, I'm thinking about how to tell a story in a limited elements. I often inspired by the things around us, nature and music. In creating of forms, the nature told me a lot of things. And in color, I am particular about black and white as colors, and another colors are appearing, too. I think each human life is not easy, so if viewers can be played in a different world, then I am happy. For me, creation is a place to live. Kyo-Yuzen is one of the traditional and artistic Japanese dyeing methods. I was born and raised in the Kyo-yuzen family in Kyoto, Japan. Also my relatives were nearby, and many of them worked for Kyo-yuzen. I thought that "human beings draw pictures" in my child hood. There are many traditional and modern museums near my home and visited there well. Also I love children's picture books, Western animations and dramas on TV, and Manga, too. So many cultural feelings penetrated me, and I would like to fuse them to create artworks naturally. My career is started as a textile designer for Paris and NY haute couture in the textile design company and next entered a German textile designer's studio as the same occupation. After that as a freelance, I set up own studio in Aoyama, Tokyo, created many illustrations and artworks. Creating artworks and held many solo and selected group exhibitions in inland and overseas since then.
