About The Artwork

I finished the original drawing (from which the pattern was inspired) in July of 2011. At the time life was in flux and full of varying degrees of drama in what seemed to be anchored in an overall state of anxiety. There is a quote (credited to Louise Gornall) that feels right for this piece and I can relate to: “Worry is such a drama queen. It takes the smallest thing, makes it so big and bulky that you can’t see the obvious anymore.” 18 Count Black Aida DMC 6-strand Cotton Floss Stitch Count: 200 (w) x 60 (h), 2 over 1 Full Stitches, 1/4 Stitches, Backstitching *Stitched piece is mounted and can be removed from frame

All my life I’ve loved creating and have always used it as way to keep myself grounded. It has been especially helpful in dealing with lifelong anxiety issues. I’ve never had the feeling that my Art could be anything others would find beautiful, being perhaps too simple in nature. But as I’ve started getting older and transitioning to a more mature chapter in my life, I’ve come to believe that no matter what you find beautiful or inspiring, there will always be others who share your point of view. Taking my love of drawing abstract art and melding it with my love of cross stitch (taught to me many years ago) has allowed me to create something uniquely my own. I draw my own pictures, convert the drawings to a pattern by hand by using a graph transparency, then stitch the project making on-the-fly adjustments as needed. And my patterns are never for sale to other stitchers, ensuring that each of my projects is one-of-a-kind. The entire process (from drawing to stitch completion) can take time, up to or possibly over a year depending on the size of the final stitch project. I’m not a mass-producer, making each piece near and dear to my heart!
