Rothstein's work vividly documented the harsh living conditions of the rural poor in the United States during the Great Depression. His photographs, taken while working for the Farm Security Administration (FSA), established in 1937 to combat rural poverty, remain a significant part of American history. Rothstein travelled across the country, capturing the struggles of agricultural workers, especially those affected by the Dust Bowl.
