About The Artwork

We see two abstracted, horse-like beasts in a tall, walled area of sorts. Various colorful shields adorn the walls and a white circular disc with a red center, hangs down into the space, much like a microphone or light- but this object has an unknown purpose. On the right, a pile of leaves blows across a figure who wears a Germanic-type helmet and holds a hose in both hands. The three figures stare intently to the right at something we cannot see. In the distance, over the wall, we see vague mark-making indicating a skyline interrupted by trees, buildings, and a triangular tower, that sticks out prominently. I don’t usually rework paintings- but this one, I did. This painting was formerly called, “Patronus II” and showed a buck with large antlers in a red, fiery landscape. It was disquieting to me, so I wanted to destroy it- but keep some elements of the former piece. Echoes of the previous incarnation show through, but much of it is covered over with a thick application of paint. The resulting painting is one which feels Surrealistic in content, rich with symbolism. The viewer may wonder what they’re looking at and who/what they’re waiting for. It remains a mystery.

I maintain a studio in an artist colony in Los Angeles, California. Much of my recent work reflects on contemporary society and the political upheaval currently featured on the news. My interpretations are combined with my unconscious and become self-portraits of sorts- of a dark and quirky inner life. No one meaning predominates, only states of ambiguity, where strong undercurrents of emotion combine with murky, dream-like scenes of danger and destruction and contribute to a disjointed sense of unease in an unpredictable world.
