About The Artwork
"Autotomy" is part of a long term serie called "Greetings from the other side" and is exploring motherhood/womanhood in todays society. The inspiration for this serie came from becoming a mother myself and the realisation just how much is unsaid about motherhood, despite the age of information we live in. Most women in this serie are from my day to day life and the work is widely influenced by the interaction with them, the stories they tell me and the atmosphere while we do one or more photoshoots. "Autotomy" is additionally strongly influenced by a poem by Wislawa Szymborska, where she talks about how we sometimes have to discharge/cut off a part of ourselves in order to survive and keep going and that really reminded me of motherhood. The beauty that nature equipped us with this skill, but also the brutality of its practice.
