About The Artwork
A playful piece where I had fun painting waves and paper boats. It was inspired by a visit to the coast of King Island, in Bass Strait, where there are some very nasty rocks. The unwary sailing ship caught in a storm there would be as helpless as a tiny paper boat, source of amusement for an immature sea monster. I might or might not have been humming "Baby Shark" while I painted it.

I live in Tasmania, which is about as far away as you can get from everywhere else, and spend as much time as possible in the wilderness - primeval forests are good for the soul. Landscape here is old and weathered and rugged with plenty of rocky mountains and mysterious valleys. Both the scenery and history get described as gothic quite regularly, so that's what I paint. Tasmanian Gothic.
