About The Artwork

DIMENSIONS: 15 by 28 inches EACH painting A set of two paired paintings of bamboo and rocks. Painted with ink on rice paper. Rocks form part of classical Chinese painting. In Japanese culture, images of rocks or suiseki (水石) have hundreds of years of history, they are related to zen Buddhism, and there are many symbolic interpretations. Rocks are crucial elements of the dry garden landscaping, where they are selected for their shape. Ryoan-ji rock garden in Kyoto is probably the best known example of dry garden. Likewise, bamboo is a popular symbol throughout Asia. In Japan, it's a symbol of good luck, moral integrity, modesty, tenacity, and strong character. Symbol of a person who can withstand hardships. The beauty of bamboo has been admired for centuries in poetry, calligraphy, and paintings. I put together these two symbolic images into a calm classy composition of two linked paintings. The paintings are signed and sealed with my personal seal, wet-mounted on backing rice paper and ready to be framed or mounted on a silk scroll. Please use acid-free adhesives when framing. The paintings are manually cut, please leave a few mm error margin for dimensions. Note that colours may differ due to differences in devices.

Canadian artist based in Malta. I studied oil painting in the South Studio Atelier in Malta. The Atelier follows the great traditions of the Florence Academy of Art, so do I. The transience of life pushes me to create, to capture the moments of beauty I see all around. I also studied Asian art, in China, Canada, and in Japan. Fragile rice paper gives a different feeling. It's the best canvas to express the complex simplicity of ink painting. I am using centuries-old Japanese recipe to mount my own artwork.
