About The Artwork
I paint pictures inspired by the Sussex coast where I live, fleshed out in terms of light, colour, richly varied textures, and taut, precisely balanced structure. I want to make enigmatic and contemplative pictures with a tension between abstraction and reality. My paintings investigate the encounter between an external, environmental vision and an intimate, personal meditation. I aim to connect places and spaces and integrate them to moods and feelings. The landscape becomes an opportunity to project abstract sensations, sometimes finding quiet or serenity, some other times restlessness or tension: remodulated places, isolated marks, balanced spaces, planes of section, vertigos, slants, chromatic connections, geometrical layouts and shapes. All of my work is created using high quality Liquitex acrylic paints and mediums. Each painting is varnished, , wired and ready to hang.

I paint the pictures that I would like to see: merged abstract and figurative modes with a story or a definite image and an identity. I like to create spaces in which something abstract can happen. My pictures are truly abstract in that they often start out a lot more detailed and figurative than they wind up. Landscapes, objects and figures get colors, forms and details abstracted from until I get an enigmatic image that I can live with.
