Blue Danube, Oil paint on lightbox tondo, 80 x 80 x 11cm, 2023. The core of my work tends to be painting in oils and I really love exploring new techniques, during lockdown I started making small, delicate paintings on glass again and I have recently been developing these into much larger lightbox tondos. They play with the notions of nuclear tourism, emitting their own light in a kind of perverse advert. The oil paint is on the back of the Perspex which gives the blurres effect. The lighting is led which doesn't use a lot of electricity and doesn't get hot. The piece works well in both daylight or a darker room, it can also be used to illuminate the room. The work should be installed by an experienced art handler. The artwork comes with a UK plug and remote control to adjust the brightness and warmth of the light, any other country must consult an electrician about replacing the plug.
