"Canonical Jester" is a painting completed in 2019. A single panel piece, it is the culmination of a year's work and represents a stylistic consolidation that I have been moving toward for many years now, but most particularly since the advent of my "Toward a Midnight Blue Series" in 2015. Beyond the life long, ever present influence of Picasso in my work, I have felt the influence of Paul Klee most keenly in this piece and the Midnight Blue Series in general. The religious subject matter of clergy can only be said to arise within me in response to my own religious upbringing and global religious conflict. The concept of a doctrinaire jester as an agent of spiritual guidance points to a need to reach beyond the mundane world of religious canon to something much more primal, deep and substantive within ourselves in order to navigate the time we are living in. I hope that viewers will, first and foremost, enjoy looking at great piece of art that I thoroughly enjoyed creating. I don't paint to make a statement but sometimes that does happen in spite of myself. I paint for the joy of it and hope that this transfers in some beneficial way to the viewer. If it encourages and/or inspires anyone toward something better in their life then I think that is wonderful.

Technology has played an important role in the development of my work as an artist. Though I consider myself primarily a painter, I feel that much of my most original and progressive work is in the newly emergent digital medium. I grew up artistically in the heart of a technological hub and this was central to the integration of technology with my art. I do not believe that technology is "the" future of art. I believe that technology, like every innovation in art before it, is an exciting new aspect of modern art and I feel honored to be a part of that. I am also a theorist on the nascent field of contemporary metapsychology.
