A double portrait I painted based on a photo. It's My cousin and myself, 10 years ago. Painting depicts the feeling of; togetherness and loss, and being drifted away by thoughts, in a friendly family photo, taken on a vacation trip. The rather cold-coloured pallet, represents the emotional atmosphere, and the repeated rows of the shades -takes almost half of the frame in the backgrounds-, represents the state of boredom.

Initially trained as an architect, she seamlessly transitioned into painting, driven by an innate passion nurtured since her youth. Inspired by luminaries such as Alice Neel, Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, David Hockney, Georgia O'Keeffe, Edvard Munch, Peter Doig, and Wilhelm Sasnal, Hekmati's work exudes a unique blend of expressive brushwork and vibrant colors, capturing the essence of her subjects with emotional depth. Her artistic evolution, learned from mentors and encounters with notable figures, culminated in a distinct style characterized by the interplay of light and shadow. Notable series like "The Light Red" and "Squint" reflect her fascination with nature's beauty and its emotional resonance.
