About The Artwork
I've been looking at gesture in abstract painting and creating composition with loose geometric forms as a backbone. This was influenced in part by a residency in China where I spent a month exploring the art scene and learning how some contemporary painting there has interesting intersections with western ideas about expressionism. The colours are selected spontaneously but the overall darker earth tones are meant to represent my interest in landscape and the earthen objects that dwell within. I look to artists like Alan Davie and Paul Klee for inspiration.
