Desfile (Parade) Painting

Carnaval is a frequent theme in Perez Franco's work. In this piece he explores the street parades of Barrio Sur in Montevideo, a neighborhood well known for its black heritage and one of the city's most prominent gathering point for street festivals and annual parades. As an architect, Perez Franco was well familar with constructing project building models that demonstrated his mastery of scale from various vantage points. He uses that skill in "Desfile" to allow the viewer to hover over the passing parade as only many Uruguayans fortunate enough to live along one of the parade routes could do from their apartment balconies. This unique point of view dominates the composition of this coveted piece.
