Duokrom Painting

"Duokrom" is inspired by the rich cultural heritage and symbolism of Yax Cuc Mo, the first quetzal-guacamayo. This name was given to me by an indigenous guide during my visit to the ancient ruins of Copán in Honduras. Yax Cuc Mo, a prominent historical figure, founded a powerful dynasty in Copán, symbolizing renewal, leadership, and a deep connection with the spiritual and natural worlds. The duality in his name, blending the quetzal and the guacamayo, serves as a profound metaphor for the interconnectedness of life and the harmonizing of opposing forces. Through "Duokrom", I aim to evoke a sense of spiritual awakening and introspection in its viewers. The vivid colors and intricate patterns are intended to transport the audience into a meditative state, encouraging them to explore the depths of their own inner life and the dualities they encounter within themselves. I hope viewers will feel a sense of wonder and serenity, contemplating the balance between the physical and spiritual realms. The choice of A3-sized woodboard as the canvas for this piece allows for a tactile and organic interaction with the materials, grounding the spiritual themes in the physical world. Using acrylic, ink, gesso, and glue, I sought to create a textured and layered surface that mirrors the complexity of duality and the layers of meaning in the story of Yax Cuc Mo. The geometric patterns and bold contrasts of green and blue hues represent the harmony and tension between different elements, reflecting the duality inherent in all aspects of life. "Duokrom" is a celebration of cultural heritage, spiritual exploration, and the beauty of duality, inviting viewers to embark on their own journey of self-discovery and balance.
