About The Artwork

“Falling Blue” is part of the artist's “Habitat” series, which is a celebration of trees, plants, botanical forms and animals. The artist began by painting a dark blue background on which she sketched flowers and their connecting stems in a pleasant composition. The flowers' petals were then painted using a variety of blue acrylic, some with layers and others a flat wash. The center of each flower was then painted in a pearlescent white. Using a watery mixture of gold and white acrylic she painted the connecting stems of the vine. This technique gives the painting a feeling of lightness. The flowers are not based in any particular variety, but come from the artist's imagination.
