The series, The Roots of the World, is inspired by the culture of graphic sign painting artwork found on streets and outside independent shop fronts in many Central American countries, (so called rotulación art in Spanish). Stella investigates how artists in both current, as well as distant civilisations drew inspiration from their immediate natural environment. In this painting, Eriksson fused various ancient artefacts from around the world, with modern-day plastic domestic vessels in a range of vibrant colours. The artist poses the question to the viewer; where does the natural environment and distant belief systems stand and signify in the global and homogenised culture of today?
