About The Artwork

The topic of balloons arose more than a decade ago. At that moment or stage of his life, Andres Moya was working on a series of paintings whose main theme was inspired by his daughter's toys and memories that they had stored in boxes for several years. He was experimenting in the representation of industrial colors, cold and synthetic that plastic objects have. In those years, nationalism and independence were manifested again in my country or region depending on how you look at it and the flags flew in all the buildings and demonstrations. In Spanish we have many written expressions that describe moments, ideas, sensations and that can be used as metaphor, from my point of view I try to define very well that effervescent moment of national festive character. Andres Moya decided to paint these paintings as if it were a game, assigning colors and shapes of party balloons suggesting flags, which once displayed would represent an indefinite number of countries symbolizing unity, it was still a great painting. Imagine these balloons rising through the sky and melting into a thousand colors until they were lost in the sky. It would have been a good metaphor for the union of nations, forming a gigantic flag, it would be an image already seen but beautiful but the idea was inspired by fear. Too much utopia due to how some world events and recent conflicts have developed. On the other hand too much plastic pollution. "I am concerned about the residue we leave; I find it more satisfying to paint an idea than to realize it as something physical." consumption, mass production, Pollution and inorganic waste are themes that have always inspired his work. "Flags in the wind" It was the phrase that gave the title to that 2016 exhibition. Some paintings painted and not exhibited.
