Jade Painting

I am interested in creating portraits that reach out to the viewer and I work mainly from life. I have painted 'Jade' from life and back in the studio. I have been working on some narrative work and wanted to incorporate a magical element to the portrait. I got the main elements of the portrait working from life and re-worked the painting back in the studio to include some paper birds that my daughter made, to symbolise freedom of thought of the model. I chose a warm background to emphasise the cooler notes in her face. I hope the viewers connect with her. This painting is painted on an MDF board primed with oil primer, and painted using artist quality oil paints. The painting has been varnished using Gamblin satin varnish and is framed in a simple wooden frame. "Jade' was selected to be hung at Worthing Museum and Art Gallery in 2023, and was the Winner of the Volunteer Steward's Choice.
