Kallowey Painting

Kallowey is an architecturally inspired abstract artwork. The subject matter for Kallowey was from my various observations as I wander around Sydney's vibrant inner west. I then work the subject into an abstract expressionist painting, with elements of cubism and colourfiled. The style is a continuation of my admiration for abstract expressionists such as Diebenkorn, Mondrian, Rothko, etc. I really enjoy painting in this style, as it feels a bit like creating a painting as one would put a jigsaw puzzle together. Though my frame of reference is purely my recollection of a building or streetscape. I do of course use creative and artistic license to enhance or deviate from the original subject matter. My goal is always to create the right balance in my paintings, and I believe I have achieved that with Kallowey. The artwork has been continued over the sides of the canvas which means it can remain without a frame. The painting has been finished off with several layers of a matte finish, which creates a gentle and subdued finish. The matte finish really suits this style of artwork, as well as protecting from UV rays and dust. I have signed the front of the artwork and it is ready to hang.
