Lace Curtain Painting

I created this painting during the years of the pandemic - it is inspired by a view from the window of our family's seaside home on the Adriatic coast of Croatia. Often in, late summer, sudden storms whip up on the horizon. The light changes and the air smells differently...palms trees dance wildly and neighbors collect their laundry from the lines across the strung across the narrow streets. There is always a sense of awe and excitement mixed in with a bit of fear and a healthy dose of caution. Soon the lightning and thunder will take over and the we'll have to close the shutters but in this moment just before the storm lands, the richness of experience and the fullness of the moment is what I hope to have captured in this painting. I chose to paint it in oil on canvas as it allowed me to work on the piece for many months and layer the pigment to achieve a rich and lustrous, vibrant and alive result.
