About The Artwork

'Lily Pond, Newport' is inspired by the rich colors of the flora and fauna, the turtles, frogs and lily pads that make up the tranquility of this beautiful ecosystem. Shards of sunlight dance on the water and illuminate the ever-changing scenery throughout the day. This painting is about more than one moment in time as one moves through the delicate balance of this natural wonder. Acrylic on Arches on Da VInci Box Mount. All raised areas on archival museum board. UV protective Satin varnish. Signed by the artist and ready to hang.

After many years in New York's Soho, I am now based in an oceanside studio in Rhode Island. My work is inspired by the 400 miles of coastline in this state as well as my travels throughout the Caribbean and Central America. In working with acrylic in addition to oil, I am able to apply layers of transparent color and meet the challenge of the relative immediacy demanded by this medium. Acrylic also allows me to sculpt with heavyweight archival papers in new and exciting ways that refer to marine life. The seascape tradition is informed by a 21st century sensibility that continues to define my practice. Bio :Trained as a painter in the classical tradition at Rhode Island School of Design/ RISD, Wyllie moved into the area of Abstraction ten years ago. Her paintings and mixed media works reside in numerous public and private collections from Switzerland to Tokyo. The Newcomb Art Museum at Tulane University in New Orleans acquired 'Observatory' in May 2021. The State Darwin Museum in Moscow made 'Moth Vitals' part of their permanent collection in 2017 and her painting "Oceanside' was selected for a recent summer fundraising auction event at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. In April 2024, 3 paintings similar in concept and execution to 'The Deep' and 'Perfect Storm' were purchased for the Boston Children's Hospital, Ophthalmology Wing. Wyllie's work is currently on exhibition at Newcomb Art Museum at Tulane University in "Legacy Traces : Recent Additions to the Museum Collection."
