‘Sunset amongst Birch Trees’ is part of my latest series, ‘Love Ukraine’. This is only one painting of many as I am touched and inspired by the awesome stoicism and courage shown by Ukraine’s proud and resilient people throughout this terrible war inflicted on them since February 2022. In this particular work I have chosen to show a group of birch trees - the birch being one of my own favourite trees - and they happen to thrive well both in my country of birth, Denmark, and Ukraine. The straight, strong, and often tall trees remind me a great deal of the spirit of the Ukrainian people. As a child I lived in the Danish countryside, in the north of Jutland, and a particular memory is of a beautiful, tall, free standing silver birch in the middle of my parents’ large rather wild garden, striving to ‘reach straight into heaven’, as I thought at the time. So in a way I am showing my love of this tree over and over in several of my Ukraine paintings! Even the colour of the bark, white as snow, seems now to me a symbol of hope of a new freedom for Ukraine. I have used acrylic paints in the national colours of Ukraine, hues of blues and yellow, on canvas board. No hanging materials are included, and if framed I would suggest a simple, slim, white frame.

I was born, I joke!, with a paintbrush in my hand. Having lived a colourful life, I have been fortunate enough to be able to pursue my passion for painting for many years and hope sincerely I can do so till, as I put it, ‘I fall out of my little red Danish clogs’ - inshallah. And every day is a new adventure! I was born and grew up in Denmark surrounded by nature, deep forests, large fields, and the wild North Sea not far away, all undoubtedly contributing to my inspiration as a painter. Having a father who was a country doctor and a mother a psychologist, my upbringing was both liberal and caring. My inspiration. I travelled the globe - ever open to new impressions, life, beauty, passion. Besides, I am inspired by very diverse sources, from philosophers to painters/artists: from Plato, Leonardo da Vinci to Michelangelo, and onwards to the post-impressionists to expressionists, Van Gogh being a firm favourite and influence. Colourful images are forever swirling in my own mind - especially when it comes to my latest, and ongoing, series about MY Cosmos - which I am calling ‘My Playful Cosmos’ - might I be in space? The stars, the galaxies, the planets, in fact, all those ‘heavenly bodies’: my goddesses!, all the vibrant and beautiful shapes - like watching the ever-changing clouds float by - I see the angels... You may, too, if you take a little time out to look at my paintings. My female forms, by the way, are heavily inspired by my time as a model, and I would describe them as abstract’ish! My life philosophy. I pray for peace, freedom, love, - and hope. Now our world needs this more than ever.
