About The Artwork

About ten years ago I was inspired by the busy bumblebees in my garden. Those little creatures are very busy all day long seeking for the sweet nectar in the flowers. I am fascinated by the complex shape of flowers and the way the insects are being rewarded after the pollination has taken place. In my paintings I try to find a balance between depicting the actual scenery combined with the spiritual state I experience at that moment. The humming sound of the bees can bring me in a dreamy state where fantasy has no limits. I imagined myself a very big prehistoric bumblebee with big ivory teeth and clumsy feet. Wouldn't it be nice to be a bumblebee for a day! The canvas is 20 x 20 cm and comes with a wooden frame measuring 23 x 23 x 4 cm. You will also receive a Certificate of Authenticity.

I was born in 1957 in Amsterdam and I have been working as a graphic designer, illustrator, art director and teacher in art and graphic design. Since my childhood, art has been my greatest passion. At the age of 35 I moved to the countryside with my lovely wife and two daugthers. In this green environment my interest in nature developed singificant, since the village we live in is surrounded by lots of wild nature. There are some small lakes, lots of grassland and even a forest nearby. All this beauty creates attention and deserves to be painted. Recurring themes in my paintings are: Flying bumblebees and butterflies, lust for life, melancholy and desire. Some works are very serene while other paintings appear very dynamic. The overall theme is nature and life itself. In my portraits I try to find a balance between the physical appearance and inner beauty. Occasionaly I add surreel elements which anables me to depict characteristics, emotions or memories of the person I portray. My motto: Wonderment is the sparkle of inspiration
