What/who inspired the work? I was conceptually inspired by a photograph by Belgian artist Marcel Broodthaers next to a small piano in the "Section Cinéma" (1972), the seventh and final section of his Musée d'Art Moderne. Formally, I was inspired by the French painter Henri Matisse, known both for his use of color and for his fluidity and originality in drawing. The intense colorism of the works he painted between 1900 and 1905 gave him notoriety as one of the "Fauves" (wild beasts). “The Paintings Section” is the only section of the Davis Museum where works of art are sold. Support the Davis Museum art project by purchasing this painting now from Saatchi Art.
