About The Artwork

Artist’s Statement: “These paintings are technically a bit challenging, as they combine wax (encaustic), tar, oil, acrylic and other media. They are painted on fiber panels that can actually be carved into. I am showing them in New Orleans, but as I do with all my work I make some in the series available only on 1stDibs so that others will have an opportunity to collect them and they will not all stay here in the city. I will be posting more in this series in the coming weeks as they are produced." (On prior series by the artist): “These paintings are a refreshing departure from the current abstract art world’s seemingly endless parade of fields of color with scribbles providing form, a style that is easily mimicked and has become a sort of “safe,” accessible go-to. There are confident decisions in these paintings appearing as commitments of strongly delineated forms and unexpected collisions of color that give the work a visceral, confident and playful soul, increasingly missing from contemporary expressionist abstraction. They are the paintings of a real painter rather than a decorative artist.” ArtSeen, 2018

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I have been selling my art worldwide since around 1990. For eight years I had a gallery on Magazine Street in New Orleans; I sold it in 2019 and moved everything online - which is where things seemed to be headed. My paintings are in fine collections from Beirut, to London, to mansions in Aspen and the California wine country. But it's important to me that the prices not rise to where they are unaffordable for collectors who are not wealthy; so I try to keep them reasonable. My influences include Cy Twombly, Robert Rauschenberg, Julian Schnabel and Sean Scully. I have never been interested in the forms I choose for my paintings. I make quick decisions about them. What matters to me is surface quality, color, line quality, negative space. Sometimes the negative space is more important than the forms that push forward.
