About The Artwork
I'm interested in the range colours of ocean blue that can be seen in warm, clear water while exploring the Algarve. I hope this painting expresses the natural beauty of this area and sense of the joy of the seaside and a place to escape to for awhile. I hope to engage the viewer to imagine themselves enjoying a long summer's day relaxing away from a busy, modern world by stepping "into" the painting to explore a moment at a quiet, sandy sun-filled beach, enveloping themselves in a perfect beach get-away and calm atmosphere. To bring this painting to life and create the illusion of crystal clear turquoise waters and soft, rich sand, I use layers upon layers of thin paint to create translucent glazes of colour and thicker opaque areas to add contrast and interest. This painting is inspired by warm, quiet, seaside beaches that offer a calming, peaceful environment to relax; a time to gaze out to sea and get lost in the beauty of the moment.
