This work is part of a series based on Calligraphy. They resemble Japanese ink paintings and like calligraphy they are never reworked. They are done intentionally but with very fluid paint which always creates an element of surprise. Like calligraphy done with permanent ink, the idea is to accept and appreciate the outcome and not to go back and try to fix it.

Janet enjoys creating gestural abstract and figurative paintings. Her focus is on the sensual nature of improvisation and the healing aspect of beauty. "The heart center is the meeting point of mind and body. We can experience this through loving relationships, being in nature, art, yoga, meditation, music and doing things we are passionate about. My aim is to create paintings which give enjoyment through the outer senses and uplift the inner spirit." Janet's interest in the full spectrum of human experience, from primal instincts to highest consciousness led to her studies of Eastern art and healing, becoming a Reiki Master through the Usui Shiki Ryoho System of Natural Healing and Certified Feng Shui Designer at the New York Institute of Art and Design. She says, the acceptance of paradox has been one of the most healing lessons of her life. Her process reflects this attitude. It is both fluid and structural, organic and geometric, improv and intentional design. "Painting is the challenge of bringing together what is seen and what is felt into one integrated, unified whole." She enjoys the joyful surprises found in the process of creativity and relates this to a favorite line from a Rumi poem: "Who comes to the spring thirsty and finds the moon reflected in it?"
