While on a grant to paint and study the great SouthWest and West I painted both en Plein Aire and in a studio to create a variety of works inspired by the imagery and history of the West. While at the Rio Grande Gorge where I painted for many days en plein aire, I made a variety of studies that I would later bring back to the studio to complete in oil and on larger materials. This Hike was so memorable as the weather of the high desert swung from this beautiful blue perfection to a wild and windy rainstorm in a matter of minutes. The beauty and power of nature.
