Shostakovich Sunday Painting

In his Eleventh Symphony, entitled "The Year 1905", Shostakovich takes us to the events of the Russian Revolution of 1905, in a deeply emotive and dramatic journey.  Through the emotional structure and musical narrative, we find ourselves immersed in a dark and tense atmosphere, evoking the harrowing stillness that precedes the bloodshed and brutal violence of the“ Bloody Sunday”. In an intense and dramatic way, with fast rhythms and dissonances, we are placed at the center of the chaos and horror of the massacre. The consonance appears slowly, solemnly and with regret, resulting in a warning cry that calls for respect and memory, but most of all, for a vigorous and long-lasting resistance. More than a representation of tragedy, sacrifice and collective pain, the work is a tribute to the struggle for justice and freedom with courage, energy, passion and determination.
