Ever since I can remember, I have had an obsession with colour and contrast. At the age of 11, I saw my first piece of graffiti and was immediately hooked on the idea of temporary public art. Over time, I moved away from an emphasis on letterform and towards more abstract works, with colours used dependent on days and moods. Later, I realised (through my art and music) that I have synesthesia My physical works are usually acrylic spray paint on canvas or acrylics applied with brushes and knives (or whatever I feel like using). My prints are digitally created and sent as unframed Giclee prints on Hahnemuhle Photorag paper. Like a great number of people, I suffer with Attention Deficit Disorder and bouts of severe depression (alongside synesthesia). This sometimes shows through my works in colour and application. As I have moved through therapies, I have found that I have shifted towards artworks that are calming to me - with ordered composition and colour rather than fits of violent throwing and movement. Over the past 4 years, I have sold both painted and printed works to private collectors through word of mouth only. Now seems like the right time for me to approach a wider audience. I create works for my own personal pleasure. I am not prolific and am not churning out works for the sake of it. If I paint, it's because I had the urge - at that moment - to try to capture and put down what I feel, see, hear. It's my means of catharsis. I often destroy my paintings as a way of casting aside the emotions that went into that particular work. You may not have heard of me, but at least you've seen part of me. A snapshot of my existence captured in colour. Synesthetes rejoice!! If you take any pleasure from anything I have done, I thank you for taking time to look. Ben
