COMMISSIONS WELCOME ------ Summer Open Studios 2022 -25-26 June & 2-3 July. See our Facebook page: Eel Pie Artists for a virtual tour. Visitors welcome to my studio by appointment. In 1995 I became the first Resident Artist of Kings School Canterbury based in Blackfriars, a 13th century Dominican Priory home to the schools art department. In contrast, I was also commissioned by The University of Kent to paint a mural for the Space Research Unit. Following this, I worked as Resident Artist at Canterbury's Christ Church College, teaching and exhibiting work based on local architecture. Returning to London in 1997 I became the Resident Artist at St. Saviours Church, Pimlico; working in the cavernous gloom of the empty church where I explored the dramatic play of light upon the rich interior surfaces. Following a 2 year residency for Westminster Council (on Grosvenor Docks), studying the urban riverside of Pimlico, I moved to historic Eel Pie Island in Twickenham. I have run painting workshops at Tate Britain and currently teach painting at Kingston University. My work is held in private collections worldwide. ARTIST'S STATEMENT I am happy to be described as a 'site specific' artist because my work is readily influenced by my immediate surroundings and this why I enjoy working as a resident artist; new subject matter means new material to feed the imagination. My intention is to use colour to generate different moods and to suggest dimensions hidden within familiar locations; the choice of colours is influenced by the snow fed lakes and rivers of New Zealand, where I spent my childhood. The recent work has evolved from my interpretation and fusion of these two realities.'
