About The Artwork

I have always loved watching sunsets I wanted to paint a sequence of The Sun Setting. I made this sequence of 6x paintings for my recent exhibition in a Mayfair Gallery. When i was younger i travelled some of the islands in French Polynesia which i absolutely loved. I have always loved Paul Gaugin's paintings and i went to his house on Tahiti and then out by small plane to Bora Bora and then onto Rangiroa and Manihi. I felt as if i were at the edge of the world just watching beautiful vast skies and Pacific Ocean as they merged into one the other side of the sandy atoll which protected the crystal clear turquoise waters of this vast lagoon that i loved snorkelling in. i love how brooding the skies were in the Tahitian Night, The infinite blues reminded me of Yves Kleins IKB paintings and i love using the AbEx formula format of Mark Rothko to create an abstract landscape seascape with all its simplicities , yet at the same time reducing into a form of Zen Meditation. This is an oil paint over acrylic paint painting on canvas supplied with fitted hanging gear attached.

Micheal’s artistic practice encompasses a painterly spiritual cosmology, in which the journey of inner evolution and growth is repeatedly explored. Employing the full spectrum of abstractionist and suggestive modes of representation, his work surveys the depths of the collective unconscious through subtle allusions to personal experiences of travel and transformation. Aesthetically informed by Post-Impressionism, Dadaism, Surrealism, and Abstract Expressionism. Micheal Haran works across a wide variety of 2D media with a focus on oil or acrylic on canvas, as well as many mixed media works on paper. He often merges the verbal and the visual, a process through which he either distils and unites philosophical ideas with pictorial symbolism, or playfully engages in themes of dreams, inner landscapes, and the realm of the soul. Conceptually, the artist is continuously inspired by his deeply transformative experiences with Shamanism notions of wisdom associated with ancient cultures, the Archaeology of The Sacred. Micheal draws inspiration from many of the Beat movement writers, particularly Jack Kerouac, and a plethora of musical genres, particularly Jazz. Many of the early Abstract Expressionist artists such as Lee Krasner, Helen Frankenthaler, Cy Twombly, Clyfford Still and Mark Rothko are often referenced in his works and help contribute towards his artistic thinking. Micheal lived in Iquitos, in the Peruvian Amazon, for two and a half years and it is where his son was born. During this time, he developed a strong connection with Amazonia and its flora and fauna and its people. This passion has led him to dedicate himself to both producing art and also to raising funds for the protection of the Amazon and other ecological biomes. See his page www.amazonia.love for more information of the ecological causes he supports. Micheal Haran just had 'A Solo Exhibition of Paintings and Prints ‘ paintings at 54 The Gallery, Shepherd Market in Mayfair, London W1J 7QX where he exhibited 50 artworks from July 1st to July 6th. Micheal Haran studied Fine Art at The Slade School of Fine Art, UCL from 1989 to 1991. Micheal lives and works in London and his work in held in many private collections internationally.
