Triple Play Painting

This painting depicts three brightly-colored intertwined dancing figures set in an isolated desert landscape. The figures are painted as flat abstract symbols with each encased in their own bubble of energy, yet merging with dynamic purpose. In contrast, the landscape setting is rendered in a realistic fashion with three-dimensional depth and colors typical of an arid desert on a clear, bright day. The painting is about the current social dynamics of everyday people joining together to create a new view of harmony and understanding across social, political, cultural, and economic differences. It was inspired by the resurgence of the modern yoga movement. I hope to convey the positive energy and personal evolution taking place as people come together in this way. However, the isolation of the scene and of each individual figure in a bubble symbolizes that ultimately, it is up to each one of us to make a positive difference on our own. The detail of a high-flying jet in the distance emphasizes the speed of this collective world-wide personal transformation taking place. This is an acrylic painting on gesso-primed cotton canvas mounted on a wood stretcher frame with the edges wrapped around “gallery” style. It has the look and feel of an oil painting with a glossy sheen, and has been varnished with a removable archival varnish. The painted surface does have some areas of moderate physical texture- particularly the desert floor. However, most of the surface is rendered with minimal texture in a smooth, blended fashion. The one and a half inch thick edges are painted to give the appearance of an aged bronze patina. This painting will arrive in a flat shipping box ready to hang, and includes an appropriate picture hanger and a detailed Certificate of Authenticity.
