Francesco Vio was born, raised and educated in Venice, Italy, where he obtained a Doctorate in Architecture. He worked until retirement as a freelance architect in Venice and in various European countries. Despite his work commitments he has always been interested in art, in particular following in the footsteps of his father, the famous sculptor Romano Vio (www.romanovio.com) who is considered by some critics to be one of the greatest Italian sculptors of the 20th century and from whom he absorbed the general concept of beauty and suffering when creating art. Since 2003 he has been living in the UK where he devotes his time to drawing and painting in general but above all to watercolours and occasionally sculpture. His artistic activity follows a general concept of freedom and research well aware of the concept of art /artefact as an craft and the concept of Fine Arts which encompasses technical expertise, poetry, fantasy, invention and proportion but mainly understanding the feeling of beauty. These concepts are considered essential in his work and therefore free from the conditioning of art dealers or art critics who often do not have the true yardstick of the elevated meaning of Fine Arts. He has exhibited in Portsmouth and Chichester and sold to private collectors. In order to evaluate his artistic work, one must necessarily be free from any prejudices imposed by the "modernists". In Fine Arts there exists neither modern nor not modern; there is only beauty, equilibrium and poetry connected with the passage of time.
