About The Artwork

"What Goes Around | Yellow Ochre" is a small curvy abstract from a series of 15 paintings based on spirals in the natural world. Dozens of times I hiked past this crazy, photogenic, spirally vine. I'd anticipate its hugeness, twisting gracefully into the sky, gifting me with an enticing new view. Then one day, it was gone. I knew it was an invasive species whose desire would've eventually smothered its host tree. I knew it didn't belong. Or did it? It's the inspiration for this series, after all. In nature, spirals are the embodiment of strength and beauty. Throughout the natural world, from seashells to galaxies, to the foundation of all life—DNA, spirals have several patterns that can be mathematically described, such as the familiar Fibonacci sequence. As a meditative process, silence + painting + spirals has rhythm that reflects a simple honesty. Each work is a glimmer that can restore your sense of joy, wonder, and connection. That's the root of of this series and why I paint. 12W x 12H x .8D, panel cradled on natural wood so framing is optional. Wired and ready to hang, signed on reverse. Ships, carefully packaged, in a box. Please see additional photos for details.

Featured in Saatchi Art collections and catalog, Michelle Louis is a full-time painter based near Madison, Wisconsin. Her work has been in numerous exhibitions, and included in corporate, public, and private collections throughout the United States and abroad, including the National Gallery of Costa Rica. She's licensed work to designers and consultants for projects large and small. "Artist and naturalist, my process-focused work explores balance, pattern, and connection in a complex world. Celebrating Nature through form and movement, I want to show you how Nature and time constantly expand and contract all around us. My paintings build a welcoming space for imaginative play, an invitation to open up and dig in. I hope my work serves as a reminder to be receptive to beauty and mystery. And that, whether artist or viewer, individual life experience makes its way into every artwork while Nature reminds us we are all part of something larger." Artist and naturalist trained in studio art, graphic design, and landscape architecture, Michelle Louis' studio extends to her yard, where she nurtures an edible landscape. BA, University of Wisconsin, USA.
