Art lovers and animal lovers connect not only with the subjects but with the cinematic quality of my images. My conceptual photos capture the joy of a dog’s life and evoke that special bond people feel towards our canine friends. It is the art of happiness. Two things happened when Ron Schmidt was young that changed his life forever - he was given his first dog and, a little later, he was given his first camera. Little did he know that the combination of the two would become his life’s work. Ron is a graduate of Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, CA, with a degree in Fine Art. He began his career assisting high-profile fashion and celebrity photographers in New York City but was drawn to creating conceptual images. In 1999, Ron launched a commercial photography studio where he created a holiday card for his clients featuring his yellow lab, Indy, carrying a pine tree on her back. It was fate - the image was an instant hit with his clients and the beginning of Ron’s unique niche dedicated to high-end conceptual dog imagery. Ron’s whimsical art photos have captured the hearts of dog lovers worldwide and can be found in advertising, publishing, and on a wide range of home décor, stationery, calendar, and home goods products. Ron is also the co-creator of three children’s books Loose Leashes, Dog-Gone School, and Back to Dog-Gone School (Penguin Random House). Ron lives in Newburyport, Massachusetts USA with his wife - and business partner, Amy, their two children, and dogs Moses and Lewie.
