About The Artwork

The piece is part of the Ebony Tales series of five photographs. The body of work features close-up details of an ebony-colored horse, photographed against a black background, with a painterly effect. These close-ups of the dark, heavy, and blackish horse seem to reveal stories from the horse's experiences, inspiring the poetic title of the series - Ebony Tales. The horse featured in the series is a Murgese, an old and rare breed with only about 6000 remaining, bred in South Italy. This series aims to highlight the elegance and contentment of the Murgese horse. Owned by a friend of the photographer, this young horse had recently traveled many thousand kilometers and yet displayed remarkable calmness and self-assurance. His excellent physical condition reflects the quality of the breeding program designed to preserve this historically significant breed. The title, Ebony Tales, is fitting as it references the rare and similarly colored ebony wood. Murgese horses are exclusively bred in black or dark grey.
