About The Artwork

The Eclipsogram series are unique, cameraless silver-gelatin photograms. These pieces reimagine the solar eclipse through hand made stencils, shapes, and darkroom manipulation to create a wholly imaginary interpretation of the celestial event. Each piece is a unique, one of kind silver gelatin darkroom print. These are NOT reproductions. Photograms, or photogenic drawing, is one of the earliest photographic processes, predating the use of actual cameras. This unique medium creates what is essentially a reverse, fixed shadow by placing objects directly on a photo-sensitive material, exposing it to light, and developing. It was used in the 19th century to create records of botanical specimens. Its popularity grew in the early 20th century through the practice of some of the surrealists, and continues to be a popular and unique medium up to the present.

I am a Cleveland based artist, photographer, educator, curator, radio programmer, and musician. My art straddles the worlds of photography and drawing, incorporating printmaking and camera-less photographic processes. My commercial work includes portraits, events, and editorial photography. I am also an adjunct professor and guest lecturer in photography at Cuyahoga Community College and elsewhere. From 2008 until 2018 I was the owner and curator of Silver Scuro Studio and Gallery (formerly Mastroianni Arts), a gallery and studio space, where I exhibited the work of area artists and other arts related events. My work is included in many private and corporate collections, including Progressive Insurance, University Hospitals, and The Cleveland Clinic. I have exhibited my work in numerous solo and group shows, curated dozens of exhibits in my own gallery, and have served on many exhibition juries.
