This is a stitched panorama image from 4 separate film negatives. It took no small effort to blend them all together into a single image. I have always admired David Hockney's composite panoramas, I think because he takes such great joy in advancing a multiple perspective view point. I went the other way without really realizing it at the time. I rigged a bracket for my camera that would allow it to rotate around the approximate nodal point of the lens, so you approximate a single point perspective even if you moved the camera. What fun! The dinosaurs at Cabazon, California are part of roadside Americana visual lore. They participate in countless cultural references, my favorite perhaps in Wim Wenders' "Paris, Texas". The photo is from 1999 when there wasn't much in the surrounding landscape. This is a new version and print as of March 2023. For another angle on this story, please see "Willie & Lloyd Try to Warn the Others" below An archival pigment print in an edition of 25 + 2 A/P. I used Epson Legacy Platine paper, a beautiful paper that emulates a darkroom print. This print is not framed.

I have worked most of my professional life in the movies. That experience has left me with an instinct toward a narrative in my photos. Not always as a straightforward story, but at least as a structure to organize pieces of an image to work together. I look to elevate the mundane in my work, to create an image that rewards repeated visits. Much of my work is a continuing portrait of Los Angeles. I moved to Los Angeles as a young man to go to UCLA Film School, and it turned into a lifelong adventure. I have collected some in my self-published book “Small Pieces of Los Angeles briefly Illuminated”.
