About The Artwork

Spitzberg (2001). Documentary, reportage. Signed and numbered edition. 40x40 (16x16), printed with white borders on Hahnemühle Baryta extra white 325 g/m². Print signed and numbered on the back of the support. Certificate of authenticity provided with the artwork. Author’s note : In the summer of 2001, the Polar Star, an expedition ship for 160 passengers (including crew), had the opportunity to sail around the Svalbard archipelago. I'm on board. After a short stopover in Barentsburg then Ny Alesund, we head towards the Pole, cross the 80th parallel then resume our route towards the South, via the East of the archipelago, along the largest glacier in Europe. 8 days of absolute solitude in a natural environment that dazzles us with poetry every hour of the day: midnight sun, herds of walruses, families of polar bears, monumental glaciers, deserted islands and wrecks of explorers' expeditions ...The journey and report of a lifetime. Svalbard is warming 7 times faster than the rest of the planet. From 2025, travel there will be strictly regulated. ~~~~~ The art of documentary and reportage photography is to compose a subject by making precise, objective choices. Each photograph must be individually significant, while the combination of scenes must evoke a whole that the eye embraces with curiosity and emotion. This is the intention of this photographic composition/editing.
