I am fascinated by southern Spain and its history and culture. One of my relatives was a Victorian artist, F.W.Topham, and he traveled throughout Europe in the late 19th century painting the people he met. I followed in his footsteps, from Seville to Granada and to Cordoba and found - not people who inspired me - but inspiration for me was in the colour and pattern to be found in the historical architecture I saw, from the streets and courtyards of the cities I visited to the Alcazar and the Alhambra. And my work is about colour, light and shadows. This Archival Giclee Print is created from my Original Oil Painting 'Under Open Skies' through me working closely with a Fine Art Trade Guild certified print studio to create the signed and certified Edition of 99 Prints.

Born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1953, oil painter Frederick Phillips studied Fine Art under Arthur Berry at Burslem College of Art, graduating with a BA in 1974. Following successful exhibitions in the Midlands, in 1981 he moved to London and began exhibiting his work at galleries there. In 1990 he was awarded an ‘Artist of Exceptional Merit’ visa by the USA and moved to Chicago where he lived and worked for 17 years. Although he continues to work with his many collectors in the United States, in 2007 he returned to his home town in the UK, established a new studio and has since exhibited his work in exhibitions in Manchester, Birmingham and Staffordshire. In April 2016, the artist was one of the first to move his studio into the ACAVA Artists Studios at the former Spode Works pottery factory in Stoke-on-Trent where he continues to paint and plan exhibitions.
