This piece examines ceremonial regalia and ritual tools, specifically a ritual dagger. The Sikhs have the kirpa, Wiccans, Thelemites and Satanists have the athame, The Javanese have the kris and Tibetans the Phurba. The symbolism of the dagger varies in the context of various religions, some for sacrifice, some for protection and some for male principle representation. My piece embodies a few aspects of traditional associations plus a bit more. Ceremonial Badam represents both male and female principles, the badam pod, a womb-like structure containing a quartz crystal, a crystal used for purification and protection in pagan belief systems. The wooden blade is the male aspect also representing the botanical, a symbol of abundance. The jute is a symbol of tying it all together while the beeswax represents the animal kingdom. All together, the piece is a ritual symbol of earth and all of its wonders.

email is sdtompkins at live.com IG is stacytompkinsart I have work available in every price point Two-dimensional work: Inspired by microscopy images, themes of spiritual energy and hidden knowledge, my work explores the invisible realms in which we are enveloped, but rarely acknowledge. Sculpture: My mixed media sculptures focus on the psyche, ritual and meaning-making. The works deconstruct the transcultural aspects of ritual, sacred tool/ ritual object evolution, and the role biology plays in the archetypal development of deities. The pieces raise questions surrounding the origins of belief and spiritual identity.
