This Viennese marble stone was given to me by one of my older students at the Education Alliance Art School in Manhattan, New York City, USA. After a holiday in her native country Austria she brought this stone back for me in her suitcase. I was delighted with this gift and also the fact that the raw stone had a line of white crystals on its surface. As I hand carved it intuitively it eventually took the form of a bird. Which I named "Dove". I think it is a fitting name after it's long journey

BIOGRAPHY Christina Nalty, sculptor, is a native of the west of Ireland. She immigrated to the United States in 1989 and currently lives and works in New York. Christina holds a MFA degree in Sculpture from The City University of New York at Brooklyn College and a BA degree in photography from the University of Arkansas, where she received the University’s Fulbright Award in the fine arts. She apprenticed in direct stone carving and hand-polishing techniques with sculptor and master stone carver Alfredo Cardenas in New York City. She has exhibited in galleries throughout New York City and continues to produce new work from her studio. Private collections of her art reside in the United States, Argentina, England and Wales. Her outdoor sculptures display a playful interaction of color, form, and rhythm using mixed media. The juxtaposing of forms shows a preference for asymmetrical balance. Her sculpture shows an intuitive understanding of classic form and reverence for the material, but with a contemporary twist. Her professional experience ranges from historical building restoration, stage set design, and sculpture commissions to adult education at The Education Alliance, New York City, The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, Summit, to college teaching at New Paltz University, Suffolk County Community College, Kingsborough Community College, and Empire State College.
