This work was inspired by my obsessive work with nature's grapevines and their tendrils which I've interpreted in paintings, sculptures and digital artworks. I've also utilized the imagery in large scale charcoal drawings and steel sculptures. This work was designed as a study for a monumental outdoor artwork. I'm very passionate about the expression and movement in these tiny vines & tendrils and they're always triggers for newly inspired artworks in many formats. These have also inspired dance movement projects and you can see some clips of performances on my website (Tabakart.com).

Tabak’s early work reflects his bond to nature through his landscape paintings. Social commentary followed with an emphasis on environmental issues for nearly two decades. These works were the subject of numerous exhibitions at the Dorsky Galleries in NYC (80’s) and museums. The Wichita Art Museum sponsored a traveling exhibition titled “The Radwaste and Stonehenge Books” a series of sculptural ‘books’ in a collaboration with artist Nava Atlas. The series then traveled to several other museums sponsored by the Art Gallery at SUNY New Paltz (now the Dorsky Museum). Tabak began to explore sculpture as a medium in 2001 utilizing found natural materials. These became the basis for his current experiments often describes as ‘three dimensional drawings’. These are compositions utilizing wood, stone, glass, discarded broken materials, as well as metallic objects. More recently, Tabak began to incorporate collaborative performance projects working with dancers and musicians. These are interpretive creations utilizing digitized and color edited images projected as part of the performances. One of these was created in Hanoi,Vietnam in 2016 ( https://vimeo.com/200560 974/aa49369ca3https://vimeo.com/201783763 ) and most recently, at the WAAM (Woodstock museum), NY, 2018.
